At R&S Oxfordshire Photographers, we have the privilege of witnessing and documenting love stories that blend cultures, traditions, and families in truly unique ways. One of the most heartwarming and vibrant examples of this was Agnese and Dhruv’s multicultural wedding in December 2024 at the stunning Crowne Plaza in Gerrards Cross.
🥁 The Celebration Begins: Drums, Veils & First Meetings
The day began with one of our favourite elements of a Hindu wedding: the Jaan - a joyful, symbolic procession where the groom’s family “arrives” at the bride’s village. In this case, it was the grand entrance to the hotel, and it did not disappoint.
Drums echoed, veils were handed out, and energy filled the air as both sides of the family - many meeting for the very first time - came together in a warm, musical welcome. The excitement, anticipation, and unity of that moment were unforgettable.
🕉️ A Hindu Ceremony Filled with Emotion
Inside the venue, the atmosphere shifted into something sacred and intimate. As the Hindu ceremony began, we caught a powerful moment on camera: Dhruv’s face lighting up as he saw Agnese walking in. She looked absolutely radiant in a traditional Indian wedding dress, blending elegance with cultural pride.
We documented each ritual, each blessing, and every joyful glance exchanged between the couple and their families. It's in these moments that our documentary-style photography truly shines - allowing you to relive the feeling, not just the image.
📸 Portraits, Laughter & Winter Weather
Following the ceremony, we stole away for a short formal portrait session. Despite the chilly December breeze (and the typical English rain threatening in the background!), Agnese and Dhruv brought warmth and humour to the shoot. It was full of laughter and love, and we even managed to stay dry - a small winter miracle.
🎁 A Touching Latvian Gift-Giving Tradition
One of the most emotional parts of the day came during the Latvian gift-giving ceremony. Mothers, siblings, and close family took turns presenting gifts and heartfelt blessings to the bride and groom. It was a beautiful display of familial love and tradition - one that reminded us just how universal the language of love really is.
💃 A Dance Floor to Remember
And then came the party! Agnese and Dhruv chose a Latvian-style first dance, and it was electric. Their choreographed steps soon turned into a full dance floor celebration, bringing everyone together - no matter their background - for a joyful night of music and unity.
One standout moment? The Latvian bouquet tradition. Picture this: Agnese stands in the centre with her bouquet, surrounded by single women, each holding a string attached to it. As music plays, they dance around her. Slowly, Agnese begins to cut the strings at random and without looking - until only one remains. That final person receives the bouquet and is said to be the next to marry. It’s a beautiful, emotional alternative to the typical bouquet toss - and everyone loved it!
❤️ Why We Love Multicultural Weddings
Agnese and Dhruv’s day was a reminder of why we do what we do.
Multicultural weddings aren’t just visually stunning - they’re emotionally rich, layered with meaning, and full of once-in-a-lifetime moments that deserve to be preserved with care.
We feel so honoured to have been part of their journey, and we’re beyond grateful to couples like them who trust us to document their love story.
